You don’t have to wade through waterlogged grass with puddles over the soles of your shoes, because all the fairways are built with a 3 percent incline, sloping down towards catch basins that are able to drain off enormous amounts of rainwater. Additionally, the whole course is built on a 20 cm thick layer of drainage sand, transported here in the equivalent of 3000 lorry-loads.
You can play bunker shots where the ball doesn’t run down, and where the quality of the sand is the same regardless of whether it is dry or wet, because of top quality sand traps of crushed marble.
You can play on fairways that are the quality of putting greens, thanks to research resulting in new types of grass that are more robust and suitable for our climate. This latest technology also needs less fertiliser and ensures that water is given only where and when it is really needed. This naturally makes the whole course significantly more environmentally-friendly, purely as a side-effect...
