Golf Course Design

Bro Hof Slott 22 - 25 Juli, 2010

How the “perfect course” was created

In order to have first-class drainage and turf, the entire course is built on a 20-25 cm deep layer of USGA sand, a sand cap. In this way the clay ends up below the sand and the course dries out more rapidly. From having been relatively flat and boring, the area has been discretely raised 5-6 metres and, to create even more height differences, some land has been piled.

The first parts of the course were seeded on 26 May 2006. By then, approximately 1.5 million m³ of land had been moved and prepared, over the course of about one and a half years. In order to make the sand layer 60,000 tons of sand, the equivalent of 3,000 lorry loads, was transported here.

In order to obtain the course, everything should be of the highest quality:
  • Single cut tees of creeping bentgrass. 5 different tees, all with the same excellent quality.
  • Creeping bentgrass on the fairways which all have a 3% incline down to drainage channels, known as catch basins.
  • Single cut USGA greens built using the Sub Air System, including flat pipe drainage, Penn A4 grass and back-to-back watering.
  • 24,000 m² of bunkers of the finest crushed marble and sand caps.
  • Dense, lush, green and watered roughs, where you should always be able to strike the ball.
  • Nine large, clear-cut, oxygenated and often stone clad water hazards, apart from Lake Mälaren and Brobäcken.
  • 10 km of surfaced stone dust roads so that it is possible to use golf buggies, even in the rain.
  • To maintain the course, about 15 course workers have been employed and a large machine park has been purchased.

The course is practically in Lake Mälaren. Here you can see the fifteenth hole.
