When a “perfect” variety of grass is cultivated, one of its improvements is that that it absorbs the fertiliser straight away and avoids any run-off.
The new grass cultivars, like creeping bentgrass, are more environmentally-friendly because they require less fertiliser.
Creeping bentgrass is a cultivated variety of grass that is more hardwearing and requires less fertiliser. In comparison, an annual meadowgrass green (which is common in Sweden) requires fertilising with 2.5 kg of nitrogen/year per 100 m². Bro Hof’s Penn A4 greens only need 0.5-0.7 kg, a fifth of that amount.
