Golf Course Design

Bro Hof Slott 22 - 25 Juli, 2010

Probably the best course in Europe

In order to fulfil their vision of creating Sweden’s best golf course the entrepreneurs have learnt everything from the bottom up, brought in the best competence, listened, compiled their knowledge and then taken action; methodically, thoroughly and with the absolute best as their lodestar.

For the first time in twenty years, a course has been built
right by the water
Bro Hof’s surroundings are unbelievably beautiful and, for the first time in twenty years, a course has been built right by the water. Robert Trent Jones, who has been synonymous with the ultimate in golf design for over 30 years, has finally designed a course in Sweden. It is probable that no other course in the world has had such specified requirements. It was created based on the wishes of the Advisory Board members and their list of requirements for “the perfect competition arena”.  Everything has been carried out under the watchful eyes of Trent Jones’s “shapers”, so that nothing has been neglected or left to chance.

“Mother Earth must have created this area for a golf course”

“Everything is big at BroHof! The holes are longer, the green are bigger, the course has more water and the bunkers are larger and well-placed. Besides which, the wind is always part of the game. On the dog-leg holes you not only have to hit the balls a long way, you also have to get them to stop. Mother Earth must have created this area for a golf course. All I had to do was to walk around this beautiful landscape and see where the holes would fit in. There was an enormous amount of land and a large wallet. If, in spite of everything, there wasn’t enough land, we could get more. What conditions!”
The course architect, Robert Trent Jones Jr., sums up building his first course in Sweden.

“A classic from the very beginning”

“Bro Hof is the most professionally-built facility in Sweden thus far, and will be difficult to beat. Sweden now has a modern, top-class golf course with a classic touch, in a fantastic environment: long, tough and challenging, built for major competitions and planned for other dimensions than are the norm. The course has a tough international golf design that suits the Swedish environment. The castle gives the impression of an old course. Bro Hof will be a classic even before it has opened.”
Peter Chamberlain, golf course designer

“No compromises, high quality throughout”

“Bro Hof has been uncompromisingly built, with consistently high quality. Our climate means that Sweden can normally only have top-class courses during July/August. When you build a course using new technology, as at Bro Hof, the season can be extended and the course can be at its best for perhaps five months. This provides much greater chances of being awarded and holding big competitions. All types of players will love the course because it is very challenging and ‘fair’. There are no ‘blind’ holes and it is not chance that decides the winner, it is how well you play your shots.”
Lars Thonning, former CEO Scandinavian Masters.

“Everything is magnificent, a world-class journey”

“There are no weak links, no weak holes. Neither strategically nor aesthetically. The course has all the right ingredients and is, frankly, a real adventure. On this course everything is magnificent and it makes you feel small as a person. In terms of play, the course is fantastic – a complete world-class journey, a maximum experience.”
Mårten Norragård, the Swede responsible for realising the BroHof vision.

“Making a mark on the golfing map”

“Bro Hof is making an impression on the golfing map, something really special, over and above anything we’ve seen before. Björn Örås has not backed down on a single item. He has consistently high targets and is doing everything possible to make this a top-class facility. The merest hint that something is not 100 percent right can result in it being demolished and rebuilt.”
Mats Enquist, former Secretary-General of the Svenska Golfförbundet (the Swedish Golf Federation).
